The Art of Falconry

What is Falconry

Falconry is a traditional form of hunting using a trained bird of prey in pursuit of game, often with the assistance of field dogs. It is a three thousand year old art that is believed to have its origins in Asia. Falconry is recognized as a Living Heritage by UNESCO.

A Peregring Falcon

Falconry is the cornerstone of all Parkland Mews activities, including conservation and education. Many aspects of Peregrine conservation are deeply-rooted in principles of falconry, with early recovery efforts based on the falconry process known as "hacking". Falconry also forms the basis for educational programs at Parkland Mews, which provide a unique opportunity for students and interested visitors to experience the Peregrine and aspects of falconry.
